A trilateral meeting of Greece, Cyprus and Egypt at the level of foreign ministers was held on Tuesday after the bilateral meeting between the Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Badr Abdelatty.

During the trilateral meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly, the need to further strengthen cooperation between the three countries with the ultimate goal of security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean region was emphasised.

The talks focused on issues such as the economy, energy, trade, tourism, culture and cooperation between expatriates and parliamentarians. In this context, the organisation of the next trilateral Summit in Egypt before the end of the year was discussed.

Gerapetritis earlier met with his Egyptian counterpart Abdelatty. During the meeting, the strategic nature of the Greek-Egyptian cooperation was confirmed, which is based on the strong historical and cultural ties between the two countries and the mutual will to consolidate peace and security in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region.

The Greek foreign ministry praised Egypt's role as a pillar of stability in an extremely unstable environment, which is exacerbated by the escalating crisis in the Middle East. Greece is in constant contact with the Egyptian government to deal with the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, but also to take initiatives to prevent the crisis from expanding in the region.
