Tsiaras: Greek women farmers make up 46% of agricultural sector
The Minister of Rural Development and Food Kostas Tsiaras, highlighted on social media that Greek women farmers represent 46.18% of the country's agricultural sector on the occasion of International Day of Rural Women. This percentage, he said, accounts for approximately 36% of the total declared arable land in Greece.According to data from the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, of the 328,121 registered professional farmers in Greece, 151,055 are women. Additionally, out of the 642,441 final applications submitted to the Integrated Administration and Control System in 2024, 296,683 were from women farmers, making up 46.18% of the total.Women also play a significant role in the ministry's financial support programs. Specifically, in the Organic Farming Scheme, 34.36% of the 44,409 beneficiaries are women (15,257). In the "Young Farmers" program, 23.12% of the 44,866 total beneficiaries are women (10,384). In the Improvement Plans, 5,051 women (26.11%) participate out of the 19,342 beneficiaries.Accorting to the same data, a total of 302,312 women benefit from the Rural Development Program actions and 13 women's cooperatives are active in Greece.
