Greece registers 510 new coronavirus cases, 47 deaths on Thursday; 391 on ventilators

Greece confirmed 510 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, of which 16 were identified at entry points to the country, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said on Thursday.

This brings the total confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic at 142,777. Of these, 5,565 are linked to travel abroad and 42,934 to already known cases.

Currently there are 391 intubated patients in hospitals, with a median age of 68 years. Of these, 85.2 percent have an underlying condition or are aged 70 or more, while 266 are men.

A total of 911 patients have been discharged from intensive care units since the start of the pandemic.

EODY also announced 47 deaths due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total of deceased from the virus to 5,146. Of these, the median age was 79 years, 95.5 pct had an underlying condition and/or were aged 70 or more, and 3,041 (59.1 pct) were men.

In terms of geographic distribution for Thursday, Athens leads with 111 new cases (60 in central Athens); the rest of Attica, 50, and Thessaloniki, 65. Leading prefectures for Thursday include Larissa, 31; the Argolid and Piraeus, 26 each; and between 10 and 14 in the following areas: Achaia (14), Pieria (12), Kilkis and Serres (11 each), and Lesvos and Evros (10 each). The rest ranged between 1 and 9, with the lower end of the scale prevailing.
