Voting for KINAL leadership opens on Sunday in Greece and abroad
Movement for Change (KINAL) elections for a new party leader began at 07:00 on Sunday at 840 election centers in Greece and at Greek communities in Europe, the United States and Australia.
Elections are scheduled to end at 21:00, unless a brief extension is granted by the party's election committee (EDEKAP).
According to party provisions, voting on the six candidates is open to all KINAL members and all those who wish to sign up at the election centers as members of friends of the party. The latter will need to fill out an application and pay a fee of 3 (three) euros. All voters, whether voting at centers in Greece or abroad, must be enrolled on the national voter registration site of the Interior Ministry and will be required to provide proof of identity (police ID, passport, driver's license) as well as of their social security (AMKA) number from the IDIKA site.
Eligibility is extended to those 17 years of age or under on conditions, and requiring proof of ID and AMKA.
Candidates for KINAL's leadership will be voting as follows, alphabetically: Nikos Androulakis in Iraklio (Crete), Pavlos Christidis and Pavlos Geroulanos in Athens, Harry Kastanidis in Thessaloniki, Andreas Loverdos in Metamorfossi (Attica), and George Papandreou in Tavros (Attica).
EDEKAP announced that health measures to be observed for in-person voting include wearing masks and keeping social distancing, and provided local opening and closing hours for election centers in Australia, Britain, Canada Cyprus, the European Union, and the United States.
According to assessments, 15% of the votes are expected to be announced around 22:00 on Sunday, while it is likely that a second round of elections will be required.
