Sartzetakis' funeral will be held at public expense, according to a joint ministerial decision signed on Thursday by Interior Minister Makis Voridis, Finance Minister Christos Staikouras and National Defence Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos.

During the three days and until the funeral, flags on all public buildings will fly at half mast.

A funeral with head of state honours was judged the "least homage to the excellent services he offered to the people, the country and the nation," while the public mourning will start on Thursday and last for three days, as well as the day of his funeral.
