"We did what had to be done for the Armed Forces. We distinguished ourselves not through inactivity, but through hyperactivity," Minister of National Defence, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, said in an interview with Real FM on Friday.

"I'd rather," he added, "be held accountable for a signature I put on a contract, if I am to be held accountable, that I feel has been done absolutely transparently and in accordance with the needs, priorities, and plan of the Armed Forces, than to be held accountable for something I didn't do."

Regarding the Turkish provocation, the minister pointed out that "we respond by doing our job" and added: "Greece does not bother anyone. We have earned everyone's trust as the provider of security and stability in the region, not as the agitator or the revisionist of the region... This is the view of all, both partners and allies."
