ND responds to former Syriza transport minister about culpability disclaimer

SYRIZA MP Christos Spirtzis, former minister of transport, "shows up 10 days after the [Tempi train] tragedy, at a moment citizens demand the truth about the causes of the tragedy, to lay out a series of lies and tell us Syriza is not at fault for anything," ruling New Democracy (ND) said on Friday.

Responding to Spirtzis' statements on Skai TV about Syriza's lack of culpability as a government for the state of the railroad system, ND said that "Mr. Spirtzis, who was minister for 4.5 years, denies any responsibility for the problems and delays in upgrading the railroad, while Syriza covers him fully."

ND refuted the allegations the main opposition party's former minister mentioned with a series of point-to-point responses, including the backup system that existed at the time of the accident. Among other things, the ruling party said, "The local telemanagement system - which has been in operation at Larissa station since November 2022 - allows each stationmaster to see exactly which line the train is moving on, before it arrives at the station and after it leaves. This system will be established at the entire main axis by September."
