Those in charge should have known about the railway chaos, Economou stresses

Those in charge should have known about the chaotic state of the Greek railways, as revealed by the exchanges between rail staff on the fateful night of the Tempi train crash, government spokesperson Yiannis Economou commented on Tuesday on SKAI television, after extracts recorded on that night were played back.

"The dialogues heard are shocking. They reflect the sequence of mistakes that occurred that night. It is not the only cause of the accident. We said from the first moment that we neither want, nor can, nor should we hide behind them. No one can deny that (Prime Minister) Kyriakos Mitsotakis has been fighting with these kinds of behaviours, maladies and attitudes, not only from the first moment he became prime minister but from the first moment he entered the government as a minister," Economou said in an interview.

"Obviously, they should have known about this mess, the chaos, in terms of human resource management, at OSE. It is clear that this image of disintegration, brought out through the accident in the most tragic way, had never reached the government," he underlined.

The government representative underlined that the competent authorities should have known.
