We hope the government does not attempt a cover-up, Tsapanidou says
"At the same time, the entire Greek people, each individual citizen, is experiencing their own mourning and their own difficulty at this time. We all need strength, this tragedy reminds us of our own losses. And it has made us feel insecure," she commented.
Asked whether a rail telemanagement system was operating in Larissa, after the relevant statements made by Minister of State for transport and infrastructure issues Giorgos Gerapetritis, Tsapanidou replied: "In a statement issued by OSE itself on March 6, it is clearly stated that the fire that broke out in the area in the summer of 2019 destroyed the system in Larissa and it has not been working since."
"We have similar information from media reporting in the area, as well as from the employees. The fact that the telemanagement system was not working is of great importance, because otherwise the course of the trains could have been seen and the accident could have been avoided," she added.
"Justice will continue its work. We hope the government does not attempt a cover-up in this case as well," she noted.
