Schools to start the countdown to finals and university entrance examinations

The return of students to classrooms after Greek Easter holidays will signal the start of the countdown to the close of the academic year and the national examinations for entrance into university, according to the dates announced last September.

The national elections announced by the prime minister for May 21, with processes to be formally set to motion this week, will not affect the dates as originally announced in September, except to delay the conclusion of exams for grades 10-12 by one day.

According to the schedule, kindergartens and primary schools will hold their last class for the 2022-2023 academic year on June 14. Secondary school students will follow slightly different schedules, especially as the last school grade will be sitting for university entrance examinations (panelladikes).

Specifically, the schedules are as follows:

- Kindergartens and primary school grades (nipiagogeio & dimotiko) will hold their last classes on June 14.

- In Grades 7-9 (gymnasio), classes will end on May 30 and final exams held in June 1-15.

- In grades 10-12 (lykeio), classes will end on May 18. But final examinations for grades 10-11 will be held on May 23-June 15, and for grade 12 on May 23-May 30. The graduating class will then sit for entrance exams for university. These will be held on June 2-12 for regular high schools (day and evening ones), and June 1-16 for professional high schools (day and evening ones). Examinations on special subjects required by particular university departments (e.g. languages, music, sketching and drawing) will be held between June 17 and 29.
