SYRIZA: Gov't must reveal whether it signed off on Predator export to Sudan

The main opposition demanded on Monday that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reveal whether he provided a permit of exporting the illegal Predator surveillance software to Sudan, "involving Greece, even indirectly, in the civil war and bloodbath" that broke out in the African country this weekend.

In a statement, SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance said, "While clashes are raging in Sudan, with a hundred dead and with anxiety over trapped Greeks rising, the questions about Greece's indirect involvement through the export of Predator need to be answered."

Referring to former secretary general at the Greek Foreign Ministry, Syriza asked, "Did Mr. Smyrlis provide an export license to Predator to Sudan, besides Madagascar, leading to the software's ending up in the hands of the RSF militia? In other words, did the Mitsotakis government involve Greece, even indirectly, in the civil war and bloodbath?" It added, "Really, what else must happen before Supreme Court lead prosecutor pays serious attention to the scandal?"
