The further strengthening of the excellent relations between Greece and Israel, through the improvement of cooperation and the exchange of good practices between Athens and Tel Aviv, was agreed upon at a meeting held by the mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, and the mayor of Tel Aviv, Ron Huldai.

Bakoyannis welcomed the mayor of Tel Aviv to the Athens City Hall, the longest-serving mayor of the Israeli capital whom he characterized as a model mayor, as he is currently serving his 5th term in the municipality of Tel Aviv, and pointed out that the two historic cities have to gain a lot from their collaboration.

"We also have a lot to learn from you," Huldai said to Bakoyannis, sending him an official invitation to visit Tel Aviv in the near future.

During the meeting, the two mayors noted that the two cities have common characteristics and common problems and agreed that cooperation always leads to finding, sharing and implementing the best solutions.

As far as the individual sectors are concerned, the discussion focused on the network of social solidarity, structures and programmes to support citizens and especially vulnerable groups, analysing the good practices followed by both Athens and Tel Aviv.
