Skertsos: The narrative of a progressive coalition government collapsed in just five days

It only took five days after the announcement of the elections for the pretence of progressive governance to collapse and "to finally see that the devotees of simple proportional representation and coalition governments without a programme are merely devotees of anarchy and paralysis," Minister of State and government spokesperson Akis Skertsos said during a press briefing on Thursday.

"All these days we are watching a Babel, a theatre of the absurd, which highlights why it is dangerous to take part in the elections on May 21 with a 'relaxed' vote," he added.

Skertsos said that New Democracy has a 2023-2027 four-year programme that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis presented on Wednesday. "A programme of which we are proud because it is characterised by one word, ambition, and a second word, targets - so we can all become collectively and individually better such that, by 2027 and 2030, the country will have converged even more with Europe in wages, investments, in the functioning of the state, health and education. A programme that is well thought out, properly designed and accurately costed with secured national, European, public funds. It does not cumulatively exceed 8 billion euros over the four years, in contrast to SYRIZA's 46 billion euros," he added.

He underlined that it serves a triple objective - achieving investment grade within 2023, the target of fiscal responsibility and the basic objective of a dynamic and sustainable recovery of the economy and incomes.
