Androulakis: The National Health System PASOK founded must be revived
The health system that PASOK founded "should be revived, and that is our party's obligation," PASOK-Movement for Change (KINAL) leader Nikos Androulakis told party supporters in Nikea, the Piraeus suburb on Wednesday.
Greece is third in private expenditure on health in Europe, according to OECD, he said, and he criticized ruling New Democracy for utilising only 2% of the funds made available by the EU through the Recovery Fund for the coronavirus pandemic. "If you add the energy upgrade of hospital facilities, it reaches 4%, while we propose instead that 8%-10% of the Recovery Fund resources be directed to health," he said, to fund perrmanent positions for doctors and medical staff in the National Health System and build up the primary care network.
The PASOK-KINAL leader also said Greece's foreign policy should prioritize pushing for an EU arms embargo to Türkiye. "As long as Türkiye threatens Greece and Cyprus' sovereign rights, it is unacceptable for Germans and the Spanish to sell even one bullet to Türkiye," encouraging Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, he said.
