Varoufakis: All efforts to collaborate with other parties over Greek people's issues have failed
MeRA25 is building a new and large active leftist front that will be ready in the coming months, party leader Yanis Varoufakis said on Thursday from Trikala, adding that it will lead to "a government that will free the country from serfdom."
Responding to questions during a press conference at the central Greek city, Varoufakis said he had no intention of collaborating with other Greek parties following failed two-year efforts to extend an invitation to SYRIZA, the Communist Party, and PASOK to sit around a table and discuss the problems the Greek people are facing. "Unity is necessary, and we want it. I must have a policy plan. I'm too old to spend my time in talks that make no sense," he said, responding to another question, "We did not create MeRA25 to become ministers, we set it up to work on people's problems."
Varoufakis focused on support to the farming incomes, especially after the massive increases in energy pricing and middlemen fees. A public Agricultural Bank is needed to provide a stable and long-term support of primary production, he underlined.
