KKE's Koutsoubas: 'Green transition' serves business interests more than the environment

The so-called green transition taking place in the world today relates less to protecting the environment and more to allowing some businesses to invest their excessive profits, Communist Party of Greece (KKE) Secretary General Dimitris Koutsoubas said on Real FM radio on Wednesday.

Koutsoubas also referred to the detrimental effect on the environment in the way renewable energy sources (RES) are developed today. "We thus have an energy proverty, essentially, and a rise in power bills instead of a drop, because they (RES) are truly too costly," he said. In addition, not all available energy resources in Greece are utilized, including lignite, whose production of pollutants can be minimized.

The Communist Party - which is participating - is opposed to the party leaders' debate on June 15, he said, calling it "three or four hours of lost time for the people watching, not for the political leaders." The way the so-called debate is carried out now, he said, is "soliloquies in tandem, without the option of substantial argument." In addition, the journalists asking the questions should have come from all media, not just from TV channels, he said.
