Skertsos: Tranquil, good neighbourly relations with Turkiye a 'main goal'

"One of the main goals is to have good neighbourly and tranquil relations with Turkiye. Greece is now better armed, we have a stronger voice abroad and through the internationalisation of Greek-Turkish issues, we have managed to firmly establish the Greek position that Turkish revisionism cannot be tolerated," State Minister Akis Skertsos told ANT1 on Monday.

"We see the Turkish President turning toward the West. It is in Greece's interest because it leads to normalisation. We are not an aggressive force, we have the capacity to be a strong deterrent force," he added.

"We want to move towards peaceful coexistence, possibly without a solution or even with a solution. This is not something for the present moment. The prime minister and the Turkish President made a first step. We have our red lines, Turkiye has its own. Greece and the Greek government have shown that they know how to defend national interests and national rights. No concessions to the national red lines," stressed the Minister of State.

According to Skertsos, "the Exclusive Economic Zone and continental shelf are the issues we put on the table. For Turkiye to resort to the Hague Court is a concession in itself. No concession that should not be made will be made. We want a resolution but we can live peacefully even without a resolution."
