Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance parliamentary group president Sokratis Famellos, in an interview on Thursday with ERT1 regarding the wildfires, stated that "restoration and compensations are necessary the day after the fires," and repeated his proposals for "immediate actions".
Famellos said that SYRIZA has chosen not to intervene while the operational plan is still underway, respecting the struggle of those battling the blaze but noted that a discussion on the government's state of readiness will take place at a later date.
Additonally, he pointed out, "if we consider that the problem is the climate crisis, we should do something about the climate crisis and for the environment," in which case "Mr. Mitsotakis should not have voted against the law for restoring nature in the European Parliament, it was a mistake".
"If we consider the climate crisis a problem, we should do something about it and its repercussions on the environment. There is an issue of inconsistency within ruling New Democracy," Famellos underlined.
