Fire on the island of Chios; no residential area threatened

A fire broke out in the area of Diefcha, on the island of Chios, late on Sunday.

A message was sent via the emergency number 112 to the residents of Diefcha and Katavasis in order to move towards Volissos for precautionary reasons.

The firefighting forces operating in the area were reinforced early on Monday. A total of 90 firefighters are operating with 6 ground teams (including 10 firefighters who traveled by boat from Lesvos and 27 firefighters who traveled by air from Athens), 18 water tanks, 5 aircraft and 4 helicopters, one of which is for their coordination. Voluntary firefighters also assist.

According to the Fire Department, no residential area is threatened.
