Shoukry invited Gerapetritis, who was part of a delegation that accompanied Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on his visit to Egypt and his talks with the Egyptian president on Thursday, to extend his visit to Egypt for one more day in order to continue discussions at the level of foreign ministers, diplomatic sources said on Friday.

The meeting on Friday is a follow up to the discussion held on Thursday between the delegations of the two countries.

The Egyptian side, the same sources said, appreciates Greece's assistance as regards the understanding of Egypt's positions in the EU. Friday's meeting, they added, will focus on regional and international issues.

On Thursday, Gerapetritis spoke on the Egyptian television network Al Qaheera and granted a separate interview to the Arab television network Alghat, which is broadcast throughout the Middle East.

In these interviews, Gerapetritis presented Greece's positions on its bilateral relations with Egypt and on the most important regional and international issues (developments in Libya, Niger, Sudan, Ukraine, climate crisis, global supply security and regional cooperation in energy).
