Journalist Antonis Chrysoulakis, 37, dies of smoke inhalation in apartment fire at Platia Attikis

A journalist of the "Parapolitika" news group, Antonis Chrysoulakis, 37, died in a fire that broke out on Sunday in his apartment in Platia Attikis, central Athens.

The Fire Brigade said they got a call for a fire at 08:00 on Sunday about a fire in the apartment. When they got there the fire, which started from a cooking utensil on the stove, had already exhausted itself and did not expanded to other rooms. They found his parents in the first-floor apartment in a state of shock, and Chrysoulakis unresponsive behind the entrance, while an emergency ambulance (EKAV) had been called. He was pronounced dead at Georgios Gennimatas Hospital.

The victim had some burn marks but is believed to have died of smoke inhalation in a tightly sealed apartment.

In postings on its site, Parapolitika said Chrysoulakis "was one of the best police reporters of the new generation of journalists, with exclusive reports and substantiated information." Publisher Yiannis Kourtakis described him as "one of the best people I had the opportunity to collaborate with - a young journalist who loved his job, and had dreams about his life."
