Famellos: Greece was neither prepared nor had defences against the extreme phenomena
Famellos referred to the floods in Thessaly and SYRIZA-PA's support for those affected, saying the party had launched two initiatives on this issue, one regarding the application for EU assistance and the second requesting an off-the-agenda parliamentary debate to discuss the handling of natural disasters.
"Greece was not prepared and it had no defences. A strong state with planning based on science is needed. The crises are global but they are amplified in our country because the government has not invested in prevention, which is a matter of political will. Crises are not inevitable," Famellos said.
He urged mass participation in the elections for a new SYRIZA-PA leader on Sunday, so there will be a strong opposition, while accusing the government of increasing both public and private debt and failing to prevent galloping inflation. This situation would not change as a result of getting an investment-grade rating, he added, while noting that the bill on labour law "clearly shows the government's priorities".
