This new resort is tangible evidence of the government's strategic decision to upgrade the domestic tourism product, but also to extend the tourist season year round, said the premier.

It is "most important to create many well-paid jobs," noted Mitsotakis. He also praised internationally known investor Prem Watsa for funelling investment capital to Greece, describing him as being resilient and patient, a seasoned investor "who has been in Greece, and has seen both its bad and its good sides."

Watsa "has also lived in Greece when significant progress was made during the Samaras government, and also in the very difficult years of the previous, SYRIZA, goverment", he added.

"It always seemed odd to me that a city with 50 km of coastline did not focus on resort development along the coast," said Mitsotakis, "and this development is not only happening here, but also with the projects at Hellinikon and many other projects that are underway."

Finally, Mitsotakis underlined the new resort's advantage being close to the city center and operating at all seasons, and pointed out that "everything we built is in accordance to the highest standards of sustainability."
