"(Prime Minister Kyriakos) Mitsotakis' choice to refrain from voting the General Assembly's decision for a humanitarian ceasefire and aid channels to Gaza, constitute a shame for the Greek people and its history, while making our country a negative factor for peace in the region," main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance said in a statement on Saturday.

He added that "contrary to the position of the Greek government, a number of European countries such as France, Spain and Portugal have chosen to support the decision especially at a time when thousands of Palestinian civilians have been killed by the bombings and the ground attack launched by Israel, while Gaza is sinking into a humanitarian crisis."

SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance underlined that "Israel's fight against Hamas cannot lead to the death of more civilians and Gaza's condemnation to a humanitarian disaster" and added that "even now Greece must take the lead in efforts for a ceasefire, preventing a humanitarian crisis and releasing hostages, instead of becoming more and more trapped in a one-dimensional foreign policy, which is dangerous for its security."
