Kasselakis visits the Competition Commission
Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Stefanos Kasselakis underlined the need to hire additional staff for the Competition Commission, in order to benefit consumers by better regulating the market, during his visit to the Competition Commission on Monday.
"Another visit to another independent authority that is under-staffed," Kasselakis said, referring to what he called an 'entire chain of state inefficiency'.
"It is clear that the people who work here are making a heroic effort with low pay to regulate the market but they are not the reason for the hike in prices. The reason for the high prices in all aspects of the Greek citizens' lives, from fuel to food and electricity, is structural and is part of the philosophy of the government's policy, which does not intervene," SYRIZA'a leader explained.
"We have submitted proposals and we will table more. Let's be clear. The government and Mr Skrekas (Energy Minister) can't hide behind the great effort that these people here are making. Quite the opposite, if they wanted to shed light on competition within the market they would do everything to immediately provide more staff the specific Authority and find a building to house it".
