Deaths due to Covid-19 rose in numbers in the period January 8-14, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said in its weekly statistics report on Thursday, but all other indexes showed a drop.

Coronavirus positive cases dropped significantly. Hospitalizations dropped by 27% compared to the average weekly rate of last week, new intubations also dropped, with the current total of intubated patients being 68, but there was also a rise in casualties last week, with 103 deaths with a median age of 84 years (range: 52-99). The most common subvariation of BA.2 was JN.1 (44% of infections), followed by EG.5 (31%).

Influenza infections however showed a rise, with 8 new incidents requiring hospitalizations in intensive care units and 4 new deaths in the last week.
