President Sakellaropoulou receives PACE President Roussopoulos

President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou on Wednesday met the newly-elected President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Theodoros Roussopoulos, who briefed her on the priorities, problems and challenges faced by the CoE in the 75th year since it was founded.

"It is a great honour for me and for our country, this unanimous approval by five large political groups of my person and I hope to honour this mandate," Roussopoulos said.

President Sakellaropoulou congratulated Roussopoulos on his election, noting its strong symbolism "as this year marks the 50th anniversary since democracy was restored in Greece and it was readmitted to the Council of Europe, an anniversary that coincides with the election of the first Greek as president of the parliamentary assembly."

Noting that she had read his introductory address, Sakellaropoulou said she agreed with his priorities he set, including the ongoing war in Ukraine, the Russia invasion and human rights.
