ELSTAT: Unemployment rate in Greece was 10.5% in 4th quarter 2023
The unemployment rate in Greece dropped to 10.5% in the fourth quarter of 2023, down from 10.8% in the third quarter of 2023 and 11.9% in the fourth quarter of 2022, according to the results of the Labour Force Survey for the fourth quarter of 2023 announced by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) on Thursday.
The unemployment rate in Greece dropped to 10.5% in the fourth quarter of 2023, down from 10.8% in the third quarter of 2023 and 11.9% in the fourth quarter of 2022, according to the results of the Labour Force Survey for the fourth quarter of 2023 announced by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) on Thursday.
The number of unemployed persons amounted to 488,667, recording a decrease by 5.0% compared to the previous quarter and a decrease by 12.5% compared to the same quarter of the previous year, ELSTAT said. Of this total, 248,000 individuals, or 50.8%, have been seeking work for a year or more and are classed as long-term unemployed.
The unemployment rate among women was 12.9%, whereas that for men was 8.9%. In terms of age groups, the unemployment rate was highest in the 15-19 age group (44.2%), followed by ages 20-24 (26.9%), 25-29 (18.2%), 30-44 (10.6%), 45-64 (6.8%) and 65-plus (6.8%).
Unemployment rates by region were highest in Western Macedonia (19.5%), Central Macedonia (14%) and Thessaly (12.3%) and lowest in Central Greece (7.7%), the Peloponnese (6.8%) and South Aegean (4.2%).
