Mitsotakis-Erdogan: The positive climate contributes to strengthening stability in the wider region
Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the President of Turkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan had the opportunity during their meeting in Ankara on Monday to evaluate the results of the 5th High-Level Cooperation Council that was held last December in Athens as well as the progress recorded since then in the bilateral meetings on the political dialogue, the "positive" agenda and the Confidence Building Measures, according to the Joint Declaration, issued after the summit meeting.
In the same statement, it is noted that the two leaders welcomed the progress achieved in the context of the "positive" agenda and the measures of mutual interest, which have been assumed in various sectors. They underlined the importance of upgrading bilateral economic cooperation as a central aspect of Greek-Turkish relations, while as reported the two leaders had the opportunity to review regional and international issues reaffirming that the positive climate in the relations of the two countries contributes in a significant way to strengthening stability in the wider region. Finally, according to the joint statement, Mitsotakis and Erdogan authorised the two foreign ministers to prepare the ground for the next Greek-Turkish meetings within the agreed framework.
The new meeting of the High-Level Council of Greece-Turkiye Cooperation will be held at the end of 2024
Government sources said after the end of Mitsotakis and Erdogan' meeting that issues of bilateral and international agenda were discussed, such as the situation in the Middle East, but also the latest developments in Gaza and in Ukraine.
The same sources noted that the talks were held in a good climate. Meanwhile, the two leaders agreed that the next meeting of the High-Level Council of Cooperation between Greece and Turkiye will take place in Ankara at the end of the year. It was also agreed to repeat the Greek-Turkish meetings on the basis of the three axes, which were agreed upon during their meeting in Vilnius, namely political dialogue, positive agenda and Confidence Building Measures.
