The police have launched an investigation into the murder of a 40-year-old woman who was found stabbed in the abdomen on Thursday, in the west Athens municipality of Menidi. The victim was found in the middle of the road by a passerby, at about 06:00 in the morning.

According to police sources, the woman was from Albania and had filed three reports accusing her 50-year-old former partner, also an Albanian, of domestic violence.

The last of these was filed on May 7, 2024 when the victim, who had two children with the 50-year-old, went to the Acharnes police station and sued him. He was arrested and led before a first-instance court public prosecutor, who set a trial date for May 17.

The previous complaints for domestic violence were filed in 2013 and in 2022, at which time the perpetrator had been located and arrested on the basis of an 'in flagrante' prosecution.

The police homicide department has launched a search to locate the victim's former partner, who remains at large.
