Wildfire in Karyes, Chios island

A wildfire started in a forested area at 13:00 on Friday in the location Trypate, in Karyes on the island of Chios.

A strong firefighting force comprised of 12 fire engines and 45 firefighters, with two teams of firefigthers on foot, volunteers, and local authorities' water tankers, assisted by five firefighting aircraft and one helicopter in the air, was deployed to put out the flames.

A message was sent via the emergency number 112 to everyone in the vicinity of Karyes to make their way toward the city of Chios.
