The results of the European elections were described as satisfactory by the leader of main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, Stefanos Kasselakis, in an interview with Parapolitika FM on Wednesday, while calling for joint action with opposition PASOK's Parliamentary Group, where there was common ground.

"It is a very satisfactory and, given the circumstances, good result. New Democracy fell from 41% to 28%. This did not happen automatically. Someone mounted a targeted, strong opposition. Together with our initiatives over the cost of living, over Tempi, we set the agenda and exposed the government," SYRIZA-PA's leader said.

Kasselakis went on to announce organisational and statutory changes within the party and predicted that Kyriakos Mitsotakis would not lead ruling New Democracy in a third electoral contest.

"We have power in the working-class districts, which means that the effort for my defamation has not worked. People understand who is on their side and tells the truth," he noted.

Regarding future relations with PASOK, he said: "I invite the parliamentary group to work together on legislative proposals that we agree on." He clarified that "there are issues we disagree on, such as the migration pact in Europe. But there are also issues on which we can agree."
