Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis, during a press briefing on Thursday, referred to the temporary solidarity contribution of 33% that the finance ministry has imposed on refineries, based on their excess profits of the tax year 2023, along the same lines as that imposed in 2022.
"The temporary solidarity contribution will be calculated based on the excess profits of tax year 2023, i.e. 33% of the taxable profits of the year 2023," he said.
He underlined that "the revenue will be used mainly for the financial support of pensioners."
"These moves prove once again the stable economic policy of the government. A policy that aims to reduce taxes, increase citizens' income, increase investments and jobs, but also strengthen the most vulnerable, as we have pledged. Above all, however, away from maximalist logics, with respect for the Greek taxpayers' money and without derailing the country's fiscal stability," he added.
He then stated that "since yesterday morning, volunteer firefighters and Civil Protection forces have been fighting dozens of fires throughout the country," while adding: "In the face of the climate crisis and due to the increased risk, we have greatly increased the means of fire-fighting and the means for early detection and prevention. Every time a fire starts, together with the firefighters and the forest service, the municipalities are informed directly."
