Copernicus mapping service activated to record damage from recent Attica fires

The Copernicus Emergency Management Service was activated on Monday to immediately map the areas affected by the forest fires in Attica over the weekend, the climate crisis and civil protection ministry announced.

The activation aims at the production of maps and data that will assist the agencies involved in handling emergency needs and the repercussions of the fires. The request was granted by the European Union, which will soon supply map data and other products generated by the analysis of satellite images.

These will be made available to all the relevant agencies by the civil protection general secretariat.
