SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance member and former leader announced on Friday night he is leaving the party membership to found a new party/movement.
After leaving the facility where the main opposition party is holding its congress, he went to his office in the Tavros district of Athens and said, "Today SYRIZA ended its democratic cycle," adding that "tomorrow we will not go to that congress." Instead, he called on all his followers to be at the office in Tavros at 13:00 on Saturday "for a celebration of democracy" and for "the most independent, radical, progressive movement."
"It is not an apostasy, it is the continuation of a democratic left in our country," Kasselakis asserted, and added, "The only sure thing is that those of you who choose to be in the continuation of this struggle, you will first of all have the support of very many citizens, and secondly, you will not have anyone from some high priesthood wagging his finger at you."
