The Thessaloniki Metro is a symbol of progress for Macedonia but also for the entire country, government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis said on Monday at the beginning of his press briefing.

He underlined that the project was delivered to city of Thessaloniki as Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had committed to.

Marinakis also referred to the constant efforts made during the weekend to address the severe weather phenomena that hit many areas of the country.

The Fire Brigade, the Greek police, local administration forces, the army, the Coast Guard and EKAV officials were all prepared ahead of the imminent storm. A total of 17 messages were sent via the emergency number 112 and all forces were out in the roads to deal with the problems.

"The storm Bora is another proof that everything we knew about natural phenomena has changed," he underlined.

He referred to the losses in Limnos and appealed to all citizens, until the phenomenon subsides, to follow the instructions of the authorities.

The government spokesperson made special mention of the tax bill to be submitted to the parliament for discussion on Tuesday. He explained that the tax bill includes 12 tax cuts and 12 measures to strengthen citizens’ income as well as provisions for the modernization of tax legislation and the administrative model governing the Public Administration with the aim of making it even more effective.

He also spoke of the misleading discounts located after the use of the digital tools used by the audit services. "Profiteering at the expense of citizens will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The competent services and control mechanisms will continue inspections and will impose fines where the law requires, without exceptions."
