Theodorikakos: We are fighting for society
The New Year's Basket, which will also include toys for children, will be launched a week after the Christmas Basket. We want products of good quality, at good prices, as affordable as possible, especially for those who have difficulty affording them, Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos said on Friday to SKAI TV.
Theodorikakos referred to the sixfold increase in the maximum fines for those who violate the legislation and stressed that all fines are paid normally, without exceptions. "We do not look at names, we do our job correctly and responsibly," he noted, adding: "What interests us is to reduce costs and we are putting great pressure on the market to lower its average profit. These are times of responsibility for everyone, so that households can meet their obligations."
Theodorikakos also stressed that although prices have increased in the last four years by 25%-30%, the minimum wage has increased by 28% in the last three years, as has the average wage. He even described high rents as the "number one" problem for the high cost of living, which is why new interventions are required from the government to solve the problem and for banks to contribute on their part to help citizens. "I believe that the banking system must rein in a number of the citizens' costs," he said.
"We are doing well as a country because the government is fighting every day to reduce social inequalities. We are fighting for society and we will win that fight," he underlined.
