Theodorikakos: The new production model is a national necessity
"We constantly monitor the market, we make important interventions and our goal is for the competition to work properly, so that we have good quality in the products offered and the lowest possible prices. We are also strengthening consumer information with the digital platform of the General Secretariat of Commerce e-katanalotis, which informs in real time about the prices of products in supermarkets" stated Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos in an interview with the Sunday newspaper Real News.
The minister also emphasized regarding the inflationary pressures: "We consistently follow a combined policy of strengthening competition, supporting the independent Competition Authority and at the same time strict implementation of the legislation and multiplication of the limits on the imposed fines. We are talking with the market players and exerting constant pressure, we are moving forward with dialogue and controls, as a result of which we have succeeded in Greece having the lowest food inflation in the Eurozone, around zero, in the last three months.
There are certainly inflationary pressures in a range of products globally, due to both the climate crisis and various international choices, and that is why I have asked business representatives to help maintain very low food inflation by assimilating these pressures with a reduction in their own weighted average profit.
Responding to a question about the new production model, the minister emphasized that targeted actions are underway and there are specific results. "Within the rapidly changing environment in which we live, the new production model is a national necessity and a security condition for Greece" as he noted.
Productive transformation, he continued, means a stronger, modern industry that rapidly and efficiently absorbs the innovation brought by applied research, with more exports and more competitive products and services.
