Greek unemployment hits new record

The unemployment rate climbed again to near 28% in November 2013. The number of registered unemployed has increased and today they are 1,382,062 people.

The unemployment rate for November 2013 raised again.

Specifically, according to ELSTAT (Hellenic Statistical Authority) Greece's jobless rate scaled a new high of 28 percent in November 2013 compared to 26.3% in November 2012 and 27.7% in October 2013.

The number of employed during November 2013 was estimated at 3,550,679 people, while the unemployed are estimated to be 1,382,062 people. The economically inactive population is 3,376,643 people.

ELSTAT’S NUMBERS

The number of employed reduced by 112,752 persons compared to November 2012 (-3.1%) and by 35,726 persons compared to October 2013 (-1.0%).

The number of unemployed increased by 78,041 persons compared to November 2012 (up 6.0 %) and 5,698 persons compared to October 2013 (0.4% increase).

The economically inactive increased by 36,448 persons compared to November 2012 (up 1.1 % ) and 6,331 persons compared to October 2013 (0.2%).

Among young people (15-24 years), unemployment reached 61.4%, following 25-34 years (38.4%), 35-44 years (24.6%), 45-54 years (21%), 55-64 years (16.3%) and 65-74 years (10%).

According to ELSTAT, last four months there is a relative stability in the unemployment rate.
