Former hospital director Tombouloglou face criminal charges
The former director of the children’s hospital Aglaia Kyriakou and a politician with the main governing coalition party of New Democracy, Haris Tombouloglou, is to face criminal charges, the Appeals Court of Athens said on Tuesday, 11/11/2014.
Tombouloglou was arrested red-handed on Christmas Eve in 2013 when he was secretly videotaped by Greek police allegedly receiving a bribe of 25,000 euros by an executive of an advertising company in order to continue its cooperation with the hospital.
The court file for Tombouloglou includes the recorded conversation of the accused during which he tells the advertising executive that if he doesn’t give the money, he will contest the tender of the project.
The court also ruled that two more accomplices of Tombouloglou, doctors Stefanos Michalakos and Christos Triantafyllou will be tried on charges, as appropriate, of attempted blackmail and bribery.
Tombouloglou has denied all charges and claims the amount he received was a donation to the hospital. He had been released on conditions, with a bail of 150,000 euros, after his initial testimony last year.
