Greece is already dancing in pace of president's election after the dramatic spotlight that brought forward the developments.
The point is that troika was probably behind the acceleration, an approach that manipulated almost coercively.
After a series of telephone conversations between Greek PM and his deputy with Angela Merkel, Christine Lagarde, and Jean-Claude Juncker, the message came through loud and clear: there will be no solution to the negotiation bid if we don't outrun the political problem.
Samaras and Venizelos, who took hand from the Eurogroup the two-month extension of the program but without any commitment to end the negotiations, had the "mandate" and the deputy PM took the initiative. Things moved forward and according to a senior ND member, in case that there will be no presidential majority, snap general elections will be held on January 25 or February 1, 2015.
Moreover, the government admits that lacks majority of 180 MPs unless it secures the collaboration of Anel and Dimar.
Evangelos Venizelos said that the government's decision to accelerate the presidential election was taken after evaluating the opposition parties' stance on the State Budget debate and the developments in the Eurogroup which is informed about the government's plans. He expressed the hope that the 180 votes that are mandatory for the election of the new president will be found, because as he noted, the national interest dictates the stabilisation and a message of unity and rallying.
New Democracy and PASOK (the two parties of the co-governance) will propose a common candidate and will address all citizens and all healthy political forces that want the stability to offer their support in order a President to be elected.
