Human rights: Continuous condemnation of Greece

By the fact that we were born as humans, we have human rights which are protected from national and international laws.

The right to life, to freedom of thought, of expression, the right to equality, is about everyone. Whether he is just a few days old or a step away from death. Whether he is black or not. The right to work, culture, food, health and health care....
Our country is not the best child of Europe, judging from the reports of the international organizations.

A few months ago, the UN Human Rights Council report, criticizes once again our country "for the brutal violation of constitutional and international commitments to human rights."

One of these commitments states that the "respect for and protection of human dignity, is the primary obligation of the State." Another commitment which is violated is the "free public education." Also, the "health care", the "work", "social insurance".

Reading the UN report someone understands the collapse of the welfare state, the weakening of those mechanisms which aimed at the quality of life of a citizen in this country.

Our country has been charged with 53 convictions by the Council of Europe. Indeed, from 2001 until today, we have been charged as a country, with fines of 1,790,444 euro for this issue.

According to UN officials one of the main factors of the great slump in our country, is the economic crisis and memoranda.

"Today Greece is the only country in the eurozone which does not have a social support program, i.e. a safety net" is one of the highlights.

The citizens of this country, do not show confidence in the state for that matter. A few months ago a survey conducted on behalf of the Greek Union for Human Rights (NCHR), in a sample of 1,000 people, found the following: 60% of respondents said that "human rights are not protected in Greece."

Indicative, however, of how we estimate our rights is the fact that 55% of those surveyed responded that they do not consider "not at all" important, the interest shown by the parties in order to protect human rights, as a criterion for their votes in the elections,

People of NCHR say: "You cannot sleep peacefully when others are asleep around a brazier." Do you remember how many people in crisis have died because of this?

Because of their poverty?

The government, however, panting, trying to show that is making progress.

Hence the National Action Plan on Human Rights.

The funny but also tragic is that when the government launched a consultation for the National Plan, on the one hand did not work with any of the organizations or institutions involved with this subject, on the other hand did something else that showed the ... hasty hypocrisy of the government.

Although started the consultation, the plan had already been printed by the National Printing Office.

Only a fact from the majestic National Plan is enough to understand that its authors are out of place and time.

"The plans for the safeguarding of the right to health seem to be out of place, the moment that the Greek population remained uninsured without access to health facilities: the plan examines only the "free movement of patients", says the NCHR.
