Kapernaros will not vote in favour of Dimas

Vassilis Kapernaros, one of the independent MPs of the Greek Parliament, offered a statement to ANA-MPA on Sunday, saying he does not intend to vote in favour of Stavros Dimas on Tuesday, the coalition government's nominee for next President of the Republic.

The Greek Constitution provides for three votes in the Parliament - separated by a few days - for the election of a new President, before general elections are called in case this cannot be achieved. The first of these was conducted this week without success, while the second one will take place on Tuesday (23/12) and the third one on Monday the 29th of December.

According to Mr Kapernaros' point of view, "since both largest political parties in Greece [New Democracy and main opposition Radical Left Coalition SYRIZA party] wish for general elections, let's do it and let everyone take their responsibility".
