Financial crimes squad seizes largest opioid cargo in history in Piraeus

The Financial Crimes Unit with the help of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) confiscated more than 26 million (26,084,000) opioid pills at Piraeus’ container terminal on Friday (03/06/2016), in the biggest bust on such narcotics ever recorded in the country.

According to the authorities, the haul of painkillers includes 479 cartons containing 26,084,000 narcotic tablets with the active substance Tramadol, as well as 48 cartons with towels and tablecloths, which were used to cover the illegal substances.

The value of the seized painkillers is estimated to at least 13 million dollars (approximately 11.7 million euros).
