Gov't plans to build twelve more refugee hosting centres, says Alt. Defence Minister Vitsas
The first stage of the plan for the management of the refugee crisis will be concluded with the transfer of refugees from Piraeus port and the former Helliniko international airport facilities, Alternate Defence Minister Dimitris Vitsas said in statements to STAR TV.
According to Vitsas, the government is also planning the creation of twelve more hosting centres in central Greece and to the restoration of the facilities in Larissa, Ioannina and Ritsona.
Meanwhile, 57,113 identified refugees and migrants were on the Greek territory on Friday (10/06) while 2 new arrivals were recorded in the last 24 hours.
According to the Refugee Crisis Management Coordination Body's figures, 26,139 of the refugees are in northern Greece, 14,830 are hosted in the region of Attica, 8,197 on the Greek islands and 2,438 are hosted in different areas in central and southern Greece. 5,509 refugees and migrants are hosted in several facilities rented by the UNHCR.
