Boat with migrants and refugees runs aground
A vessel with approximately 100 migrants and refugees on board ran aground earlier on Thursday (16/06/2016) in the area of Tshihliondas, northwestern Mytilene.
Coast Guard patrol vessels are rushing to the area while according to sources the passengers are not in danger.
Meanwhile, 56,662 identified refugees and migrants were on the Greek territory on Thursday while no new arrivals were recorded in the last 48 hours.
According to the Refugee Crisis Management Coordination Body's figures, 23,881 of the refugees are in northern Greece, 9,947 are hosted in the region of Attica, 8,319 on the Greek islands and 2,420 are hosted in different areas in central and southern Greece. 5,632 refugees and migrants are hosted in several facilities rented by the UNHCR, 4,923 are staying in non-organised facilities while approximately 1,500 persons are living outside organised facilities.
