The rights of refugees must always be protected, Ban Ki Moon says in statement to ANA-MPA
The rights of refugees forced to leave their homes must continue to be protected at all times, United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon said in a statement to the ANA-MPA shortly before his arrival in Greece on Friday (16/06/02016).
"I continue to stress the need for providing assistance and support to those rescued, ensuring adequate reception condition and access to asylum for those in need of international protection. The rights of men, women and children who were forced to leave, have to be protected at all times, in law and in practice," he said.
The UN Secretary General is scheduled to meet President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras before travelling to the Aegean island of Mitylene on Saturday to visit refugee camps and talk to refugees, migrants, asylum seekers, volunteers and local authorities on the island.
