Two dead in cooking gas cannister explosion in Moria hotspot
Both were trapped in the fire and burnt to death. Two more Kurdish from Iraq, a woman and her child were seriously injured, suffering from severe burns, were sent to an Athens hospital.
Ten more migrants and refugees were sent to Mytilene hospital suffering from minor burns and with respiratory problems.
The fire that broke out speaded rapidly to the adjacent tents. Women and childrens, mostly Kurdish from Iraq because in this area of the hospot is occupied by people of this nationality, run to get away from the fire. The raging fire threatened to burn the whole hotspot but fire brigade set the fire under control prevented its spreading. Fire brigade evacuated the area as well as the structure where children refugees are housed and most of them passed the night in the nearby fields.
Over 4,500 people, refugees and migrants of all ages from Asia and Africa are staying in plastic tents in Moria hotspot.
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Friday (25/11/2016) had a phone contact with Migration Minister Yiannis Mouzalas and expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic incident that occured on Thursday night at Moria hotspot on Mytilene.
