Skourletis: Government will step in to ensure first homes are protected
A successful exit from the memorandums must be "combined with the possibility of shaping a plan for the reconstruction of production that is free of memorandum thinking," Interior Minister Panos Skourletis said in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) published on Sunday.
Regarding home auctions for debts, Skourletis said the government would step in and take all necessary action if "things got out of hand" and protection for primary residences at the level set by the government was shown not to exist in practice, "even if this is not understood by the creditors."
SYRIZA's role will be assessed on the basis of its ability to "get the country out of the programme with the fewest possible repercussions on society and by smoothing the memorandum policies," Skourletis said.
Once the economy was fortified and Greece had proved that it could borrow in the same way as other countries, he added, the Greek side must once again kickstart a debate on the size of primary surplus targets.
