Athens mayor plans to cut municipal taxes by 5% across the board

The mayor said that he would introduce the measure during the city council meeting in order to "relieve and support citizens - this winter will be difficult."

City upgrading projects will continue, he said, as the budget this year will be over 1 billion euros for the first time. "We have succeeded in claiming European funds, which will allow us to do all the projects in neighborhoods and the center of Athens," he added. The plan is to convince younger people to return to the city, and projects include playgrounds, parks, sports facilities, and a replacement of all city lights - 45,00 of them - with LED ones, he explained.
